BNB meme coins slide as CZ says tweets are not recommendations

BNB Chain’s meme coins plummeted after Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) said his posts on

4, which soared to a new all-time high (ATHs) during the recent frenzy, has fallen more than 22% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

Among other prominent names, Palu (PALU) fell more than 14% and GIGGLE plummeted before bouncing back to trade 3% lower. Many others BNB tokens have lost more than 20% of their value.

CZ says his messages are not financial advice

CZ said in an

CZ responded to a post from X user ‘Yazan’, who warned about the risks of meme coins.

“CZ saying a word does not necessarily mean you have to look for a meme coin with that word and buy it,” wrote Yazan, who added that he is “very sure” that CZ “is not referring to anything when he says something.”

CZ’s answer will follow on October 7 after in which he announced the start of a BNB meme coin season.

That was when the prices of tokens in the BNB ecosystem soared. At the height of the frenzy, more than 100,000 on-chain traders had purchased new BNB meme coins, with about 70% of traders making a profit, Bubblemaps data shows.

One of the traders was even able to generate more than $10 million in profits, while another 40 made profits of more than $1 million. Another nine hundred traders made profits of more than $100,000.

CZ says people give him too much credit for market moves

In a follow-up post to

“People often give me too much credit, in good times and bad,” he said. “I didn’t do anything. I was busy all day.”

He also speculated that the price drops could have been caused by FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) and fake news that Binance Alpha would not list certain coins in the future.

“But the FUD has already done its damage,” he wrote. “This is the unfortunate power of FUD when enough people are fooled by it.”

Some in the crypto community have expressed support for CZ, which they say is being targeted by FUD spreaders. However, the Binance co-founder said he isn’t too concerned.

Another person suggested that the FUD around CZ will disappear soon, before jokingly adding that it will probably return next week.

CAKE and BNB are also tumbling

CAKE, the native token of the decentralized exchange PancakeSwap that fThe huge trading volumes on the BNB ecosystem during the frenzy have dropped 2% after CZ confirmed that its messages are not statements of support.

The meme coin frenzy helped BNB to a new ATH of $1,336.57 on October 7, but has lost 6% since then.

After dropping more than 2% in the last 24 hours, BNB is trading at $1,251.77 as of 7:01 a.m. EST. It is still up 41% in the past month.
