BMW’s all-new 450cc parallel-twin engine powers the F 450 GS
Parallel-twin motorcycles are all the rage in the entry-level adventure motorcycle segment these days, so BMW has decided to join its peers rather than reinvent the wheel. What we have in the F 450 GS is an all-new mill, developed in collaboration with TVS and BMW. It has a peak power of 48 horsepower and 32 pound-feet, thanks to special materials like magnesium in the mill.
Both figures come in quite low (8,750 and 6,750 rpm respectively), which should mean not only excellent handling but also plenty of power for off-road situations. Everything reaches the wheel via a six-speed gearbox, and if you max out the sixth cog you’ll reach a top speed of 100 miles per hour (claimed). While that number may not impress you, the peak power here is class-leading.

A tubular steel chassis and simple suspension make adventurous tours possible
Unlike the concept bike, the production-spec F 450 GS is an adventure tourer through and through. This is evident from the combination of 19/17 inch cast alloy wheels, together with the simple suspension (43 mm USD fork and monoshock) with a travel of 7.1 inches. That figure is lower than the KTM 390 Adventure Anyway, the real pro for the Beemer is its very low wet weight of 392 pounds. That’s naked cycling territory!

The F 450 GS could cost a pretty penny at launch
European price: >$8,000
The F 450 GS essentially replaces the G 310 GS as the new baby GS. And it needs to be priced competitively to go against its rivals. However, that may not be the case, judging by the European price of around $8,200. Even if it were slightly cheaper in the US (say around $7,500), it would still be one of the most expensive bikes in the segment. Currently, the Honda NX500 holds that title with a base price of $7,399. Oh, and there are two more problems. One: this would be the base price without optional parts such as the Rallye color, quickshifter, wire wheels or windshield. And second, the GS is listed as a 2027 model for the US, with a planned arrival date in late 2026.
