While the Threads of Meta X continue to challenge total users and get more traction as the place to be for in-the-moment news updates, Bluesky has lost part of his growth impulse, although it still wins users and builds up his own dedicated community of Fans.

As confirmed by Bluesky Chief Jay GraberBluesky is now planning 38 million monthly active usersrising of 30 million it achieved in March.

That is certainly positive, adding 8 million more users is a good sign for evolution and the permanent popularity in the wider space on social media.

Although the growing momentum of Bluesky is considerably delayed.

Bluesky had been around 5 million users until August last year before he saw an influx of interest, while users turned from X.

Between August and November, Bluesky added another 15 million users, 20 milliiouk By the end of that month. That was a major increase in the growth momentum, and the sudden interest certainly caught the attention of investors, as well as the wider technical community.

But since then, Bluesky’s growth has largely returned to the average.

It added another 10 million users between November 2024 and March 2025 and brought it to 30 million total activity.

And now it has been reached 38 million after another 5 months.

So Bluesky went from adding around 5 million new users per month to peak, to adding 1.6 million per month more recently.

That is still growth again, and with so many apps that struggle to get users, every increase, especially a million or more a month, is considerable. But it no longer looks like Bluesky is becoming a real challenger for X (currently at 600 million users) and Threads (350 million) as an important platform for involvement in the moment.

So who uses Bluesky and do you have to be on it?

Well, that depends on it.

Based on the current trending topics, a number of trending topics are discussed in the app, although the interview is quite limited.

Which is logical, because the data also prove that Blusky’s total post volume is decreasingAlthough it adds more users.

Some reports have indeed suggested that many have done that abandoned bluesky due to the general lack of activityAnd it is possible that there is simply not enough to make an important focus of it, at least not as an important engine for involvement.

But there is no central repository from Bluesky Trends, and as such is the only way to be sure to look for your focus topics and see what is being said in the app. If there is a lot of involvement, it might be worth it.

But the data would suggest that this is probably unlikely for most topics.

Bluesky certainly has a special core fan base, and again, it still seems to add users. But that core group does not yet build a big momentum.

That could change, especially if Bluesky can get more exclusive content in his app, although with the total after the decrease of the post volume, it seems to be going in the opposite direction for the time being.

And with mounting the costs, Bluesky will eventually have to review his approach. Who will probably include paid add-ons, for which the core user base will pay for support.

But will that be enough to keep the lights in the long term?
