The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped the first match of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, and many noticed that two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell was far from his best.

The Southpaw swung eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings work, but allowed three earned points, three free runs and three hits in the night.

In the most recent start of Snell, his fastball with four seams was an average of 93.7 mph compared to 95.2 mph the week before. Manager Dave Roberts, however, does not seem too worried because of the most important event that Snell was part of the past week.

“Blake was fine. It was a strange week for him who just got the baby and tried to adjust a bit and the throwing schedule, the sleep schedule, all things like that,” said Roberts. “He just didn’t have much in the tank tonight.”

Snell and his wife, Haeley, added their second child to the family last week. The Southpaw spoke about his off-the-mound responsibilities that he attended to contribute to the loss.

“I had a busy week, man. A lot going on,” Snell said. “I am not worried about (the reduced speed). I know what is going on. So it will come back. I am not worried about it. I mean, I was aware of it. But I am not going to push it. It is what it is what I had today. Just be better.”

Snell was far from perfect on Friday, but there was still much to be desired about the attack.

The Dodgers only gathered three hits all night, which led to zero runs on the board when the game started. A lesser version of Snell was still able to keep things somewhat close, but it is difficult to win a game with just three hits of support for the pitcher.

As Roberts noted, all that can still be done for LA, look at the next game and do what they can to return to the win column.

“We just couldn’t put together anything all night,” said Roberts. “For me I think we just have to wash it and concentrate ourselves [Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo] Rodriguez tomorrow. “
