The Chicago Blackhawks have been busy this week. ElliTe Friedman spoke part of what the team did, specifically aimed at the recent signing of Frank Nazar and a future contract for Connor Bedard. He also notes that the Blackhawks may be looking to take care of another company.

During his last 32 thought podcastNoted Friedman that Spencer Knight is in the last year of his current contract before he becomes a limited free agent. Friedman seems to think that the team would like to lock that deal.

If they notice that when clubs believe in their boys, they are not afraid to make bets on them, Knight may be in a situation like Nazar. The Blackhawks believed that Nazar would be someone who could make his unprecedented seven -year contract extension look like a solid value in a few seasons. GM Kyle Davidson may think the same about Knight.

Spencer Knight Blackhawks Extension

Friedman explained:

“I don’t believe that something is going on with Connor Bedard, who is eligible for an extension. But I believe that Chicago is considering another things and one of the things I wonder is Spencer Knight”

Friedman added that Knight is used up after this year and “it is certain of future behavior is behavior from the past …” He said, “I wonder if they are going to make a run at Knight.”

What would that deal look like for Knight?

It is difficult to say how comfortable the Blackhawks are with their keeper and what a long -term deal could look like. If there is something that the Nazar extension has proven, it is that Chicago is unpredictable.

Just like Nazar, Knight has only played limited games for the Blackhawks. In 15 Starts last season he set a 3.18 goals against the average and a .896 savings percentage. Those are not exactly the kind of figures that Monster Extension screams for different seasons.

That said, Knight had much better results with the Florida Panthers in the 80 games he played for that franchise. During his career of 95 games, his totals have him with a goals of 2.82 against and a .905 savings percentage.
