Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United have still not agreed on a fee for the transfer of Rory Finneran 16 months after his switch. according to Alan Nixon.
Blackburn Rovers have one of the most productive academies in the Football League. Their U18s and U21s regularly compete against the youth sides of some of the country’s top clubs.
This success sees youngsters regularly rise through the ranks and into the first team at Ewood Park. Among those on that journey was Irish midfielder Rory Finneran.
However, Newcastle United snapped up the teenager not long after he became Blackburn Rovers’ youngest ever player when he was introduced in an FA Cup tie against Cambridge United. But now, 16 months after the move, Alan Nixon has said the two clubs have still not agreed on a fee.
Writing on his PatreonNixon says the Rovers have grown tired of the ongoing saga and will take further action. As a result, they will either take the legal route or sue a court to determine the compensation.
How Rory Finneran has fared since leaving Blackburn Rovers
Finneran had, as previously mentioned, made his Blackburn Rovers debut, but at the age of 16 he was still finding most of his minutes at the academy.
The Irishman is still in the early years of his career as he continues his development in the North East. Still just 17 years old, he finds most of his action with the Newcastle United U21s, also testing himself against European prospects in the UEFA Youth League.
On the international stage, Finneran has continued his progression. He has played fifteen caps at U17 level for the Republic of Ireland, but has also progressed to the U18s and even captained the side on a few occasions.
As he progresses, Finneran appears to be on the right track to making a breakthrough in senior football. He hopes to earn first-team opportunities with the Magpies in the long term, but he may first make a name for himself on loan.
The next Blackburn Rovers hopefuls
While some potential Blackburn Rovers players, such as Finneran, will move on to clubs higher up the ladder before securing a place in Lancashire, there remain some exciting hopefuls pushing for breakthroughs under Valerien Ismael.
Igor Tyjon is perhaps the highest-rated prospect on the Rovers books at the moment. He is out to prove himself on the senior stage amid the interest of Arsenal.
Kristi Montgomery has also found action under Ismael, offering herself in midfield and on the right.
Brandon Powell is one of the players impressing in the U21s, while Joe Boggan is also getting good reviews. In the U18s, Valentin Joseph and Freddie Leatherbarrow could be the ones to watch.
