After more than six decades from Distinguished service, the MIG-21 of the Indian Air Force will be formal with retirement this Friday in Chandigarh. As the first supersonic hunter of India, the plane played a crucial role in several important operations, including Kargil and Balakot.
Despite his reputation for a challenging safety record, the MIG-21 has helped to train generations of pilots and remains an important part of India’s aviation history. The pension ceremony will contain a final Flypast in addition to the indigenous tejas-hunter, which symbolizes the transition from India to air possibilities of the next generation. The inheritance of the MIG-21 continues to exist as a cornerstone in the evolution of the Indian Air Force.
