Hoping to move within touching distance of the play-off spots on Monday evening, Birmingham welcome Watford to St. Andrew’s.
Starting with the home side, while Birmingham may have only made their return to the Championship this season, it’s no secret that the Blues have their sights set on building a genuine play-off attack this time around. Chris Davies’ men came from behind last weekend to snatch a 1-1 stalemate at bitter local rivals West Brom and have suffered just one defeat in their previous five games in the second tier. Knowing they can move within striking distance of the top six, Birmingham will certainly be excited to return here to St. Andrew’s. With November kicking off with back-to-back 4-0 draws against Millwall and Portsmouth, Monday’s hosts will be desperate for another goal. Similarly, last seen in front of their own supporters battling their way to a 4-1 victory against Norwich, Davies’ side have remarkably won all their previous three Championship showdowns at St. Andrew’s by an aggregate score of 12-1. In fact, the Blues have recorded a quartet of goals in each of those four consecutive home wins.
As for the visitors, who settled for yet another 1-1 stalemate at home to Preston last week, Watford found themselves almost in the limbo of the Championship. Now that it looks like they face a real battle in the race to book their own play-off ticket, Javi Garcia’s side have been forced to settle for one point in three of their previous four Championship appearances. While the Hornets may have been last seen away from Vicarage Road where they recorded an action-packed 3-2 win against Derby, it’s fair to say that Monday’s guests have struggled to find any form of stability on their travels. With just one win in the second tier outside Hertfordshire since the start of the 2025/26 season, it must also be highlighted that the former Leeds boss is still waiting for his side to record a first clean sheet in the Championship on the road. In what could be an enjoyable clash from St Andrew’s on Monday evening, the chances from the Midlands could come quickly.
