Toronto Raptors continue to eye the trade landscape for help as concerns linger behind Jakob Poeltl.
With durability becoming a real question, the Raptors have explored the more expensive options under center and Domantas Sabonis has emerged as an interesting name.
Sabonis is currently sidelined with a knee injury, but Sacramento expects him back around the All-Star break. Toronto’s interest appears to be rooted in both fitness and stability.
The player offers durability when healthy, elite rebounding and playmaking from the center spot, traits that could help anchor a Raptors lineup that lacks consistency inside.
From a financial perspective, a deal would not be easy.
Sabonis is making $42.3 million this season and has two more guaranteed years after that, which works out to about $94 million without team or player options.
Toronto would have to merge multiple contracts to make the math work, which would almost certainly require sacrificing depth or depth.
Still, Sabonis’ longer-term contract structure could be easier to manage for Toronto compared to other star centers, especially since it doesn’t come with immediate extension pressure.
If the Kings decide to reassess their core values later this season, Toronto could be positioned as a serious but complicated suitor.
