The Raptors add depth to the frontcourt by signing Mo Bamba to a one-year deal as they deal with injuries in their rotation.

With Jakob Poeltl sidelined due to a back problem, Toronto has been forced to adjust its lineup, with even Scottie Barnes taking center stage in Sunday’s match against Golden State.

This move reflects the team’s need for size and stability in the middle while Poeltl is unavailable.

So far, Sandro Mamukelashvili has handled the majority of the backup center minutes, but his natural limited size makes it difficult for him to fill that role consistently.

With Poeltl missing multiple games, the Raptors decided additional frontcourt help was needed to maintain balance and depth.

Bamba joins the team after spending a season with the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League, where he put up strong production.

In 15 games, the 7-footer averaged 16.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks, showing his ability to hit both ends of the floor.

He also brings previous NBA experience, having previously played for the Magic, Lakers, 76ers, Clippers and Pelicans.

Financially, the move pushes Toronto slightly past the first platform, at just over $474,000, and puts the team in the luxury tax bracket about $2.1 million.

Still, the Raptors appear comfortable absorbing the additional cost to stabilize their frontcourt rotation.
