Microsoft Corporation MSFT co-founder Bill Gates Warned that the shrinking global health financing threatens millions of lives of children, even when he announced a promise of $ 912 million to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
Gates warns private donations no cuts on global health help
Gates emphasized that even large private donations cannot fully compensate for the government’s cuts to global health financing.
During a Reuters Newsmaker event on Monday, he said: “I am unable to come up with what the government is cutting, and I don’t want to create an illusion of it.”
His statement came prior to the annual goalkeeper event of the Gates Foundation in New York. This year, the event was aimed at renewing worldwide dedication to protect the lives of children.
Gates also revealed that his foundation would contribute to the Global Fund for three years to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria for the supplementary cycle of 2026-2028.
In a blog post from Gates Foundation, he recognized the challenges but remained carefully optimistic.
“What happens to the health of the children of the world is worse than most people realize, but our long -term perspectives are better than most people can imagine,” Gates said.
“I do not expect that most governments will suddenly restore foreign help in historical levels, but I am an optimist and I believe that governments can and will do what is needed to save as many children as possible,” he added.
Global health financing at 15-year-old low, millions of children who are at risk
The blog post also quoted data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation that shows that global development aid for health (DAH) fell by 21% between 2024 and 2025 and reached a low point.
Gates emphasized that these cutbacks threaten decades of progress that reduced child mortality from 10 million in 2000 to less than 5 million annually today.
During the 2025 goalkeepers, Gates also sketched a strategy to save millions of more children by 2045, and emphasized the need for governments to maximize each dollar and to expand access to affordable, life -saving innovations.
He also announced a new promise to the additional cycle of 2026-2028 of the Global Fund, aimed at preventing deaths by AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
During the event he honored the president of the government of Spain with the 2025 Global Goaleper Award.

Gates warned that the American auxiliary reductions could reverse decades of global health output for decades
Earlier this year, Gates expressed serious concern about the American budget and utilities that he said, according to global health, it threatened.
He criticized the withdrawal of the Trump government by financing GaviThe Vaccin Alliance that had helped to immunize a billion children, warning that the reductions could turn for decades of progress and could increase infant mortality for the first time since the 1990s.
Gates also emphasized the broader impact of continuous American cutbacks on global health programs, with reference to a Lancet research that projected another 8 million deaths for children by 2040.
He shared personal observations from Nigeria and Ethiopia and noted stuck tuberculosis and malaria programs and delays in life-saving medicines.
In addition, gates criticized Tesla Inc. Tsla CEO Elon Musk’s Push to $ 2 trillion of cuts on the government by the Ministry of Government Efficiency, with the argument that rapid reductions of foreign aid can lead to millions of deaths worldwide.
At the congress, he also urged the financing to recover in programs such as Pepfar and the Global Fund, and emphasizes that timely action can still save lives.
