Big McGriffs

Fred McGriff is one of my favorite guys to collect. As a child that grew up in San Diego, I thought it was great to have him on the Padres for those 2+ seasons. Nowadays I have the feeling that my McGriff -PC is “in a good place” or whatever, and no longer seek many additions, but I am happy to add a new card here and there. Supercollecting the crime dog is best left to professionals such as @Icollectmcgriff. (So happy for him when Fred finally got his call to the hall.)

But I still have a legitimate PC on myself, and I thought I would show off some big ones in a message.

I scored the competition print photo for Fred’s flagship card from 1991 from the Topps Vault for sale in 2018. Combined with a standard card here for reference.

They even through in the envelope, which is a cool bonus.

Here is another competition print photo of the Topps Vault, but for a more obscure card: 1990 Topps TV Glossy All-Star Set.

This was a situation in which I had to take the map of Comc to combine with its rare version. Same with this next item …

More “junk” combined with definitely fewer junky versions. The Topps Kids is an empty back resistant (not only a gimmick like the later tops Vault empty backs, but rather actually used in production) and the 1992 Leaf (another repetition of my ’22 court post) is a return car.

Let’s close with this Rainbow or 1987 Topps Trade, his “Topps Rookie” (FTC). The middle card is a homemade mod (“Birchwood Edition”) and the refractor (“retrofactor”) is a reprint from 2001.

That will do today. I wish a happy birthday to @icollectmcgriff! Thanks for coming by.
