Newcastle United have had a significant double boost ahead of their weekend clash with Everton.
On Monday evening, Everton played against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
One of those games where it’s difficult (impossible?) to know who you want to win, or rather, who you most want to beat.
Man U got very lucky and worked his way up the table, covering the cracks, so I guess it’s a case of wanting the scouse mackems to at least not lose.
The whole thing was hilarious and bizarre.
Everton lost right back and captain Seamus Coleman to injury after just ten minutes, meaning he is likely to miss the Newcastle United match.
While a bizarre case of handbags just three minutes later between two Scouse Mackem players saw Idrissa Gueye red carded for shoving teammate Michael Keane in the face, Gueye will certainly also miss the United match on Saturday.
To top it all off we witnessed the most stupid attempt to play for over 80 minutes with an extra man as Amorim and his Man U side were woeful.
The Scouse Mackems ran themselves into the ground and won 1-0 thanks to an excellent Dewsbury-Hall goal in the 29th minute, which the Man U keeper should still have saved comfortably.
With a win against the Scouse Mackems, Newcastle United could potentially finish in ninth place next weekend, above the likes of Man U, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool.
A very busy schedule for Eddie Howe and his team started in the best possible way on Saturday with the deserved victory over Man City.
Newcastle United have nine games in four weeks before we head to Christmas.
The nine matches in four weeks were/are Man City (H), Marseille (A), Everton (A), Spurs (H), Burnley (H), Bayer Leverkusen (A), Sunderland (A), Fulham (H) and Chelsea (H).
This is a concentrated period that could determine the direction of this season. Positive results against Marseille and Everton would prepare us perfectly for those two quick home games against Spurs and Burnley.
This season certainly has everything to play for, especially if players like Gordon and Wissa can then hit the ground running, as Hall and Livramento did on Saturday when they returned to the matchday squad.
