Best FPL Gameweek 27 Wildcard Team: 2 Concepts to Consider

After a lackluster Double Gameweek for many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, some may be thinking about breaking their emergency Wildcard glass before Gameweek 27.

So let’s break down the pros and cons of a Gameweek 27 chip activation and then give you a few concept ideas.

Don’t forget to rate your Wildcard team through our Rate my team tool or the Plan FPL planner!

REASONS TO USE IT NOW

LOST SOME ARSENAL

Many FPL managers have loaded Arsenal, Manchester City and – in some cases (yes, guilty as charged) – Wolverhampton Wanderers players, but now have a squad loaded with assets that will either definitely be blank (Arsenal, Wolves) or potentially blank (City, Palace) in Gameweek 31. If you use your Free Hit, great. If not, it’s time to think about how to deal with their absence.

The Gunners’ games are also getting tougher as the burden of leading a title charge begins to take its toll. The North London derby comes just four days after a trip to Wolves, and fatigue (be it mental or physical) is starting to affect their performances, as shown in Gameweek 26.

Facing a well-rested Tottenham Hotspur team looking for a new leaf under Igor Tudor, Sunday suddenly doesn’t look easy.

Then it’s another London derby against in-form Chelsea, for whom João Pedro (£7.7 million) and Cole Palmer (£10.6m) absolutely flying.

That’s why now seems like the right time to sell Double Gameweek 26 points Viktor Gyokeres (£8.8 million), You Maduk (£6.8 million) and Martin Zubimendi (£5.3 million). And maybe even a reduction in their defensive coverage, for those who are doubled/tripled?

BUY LIVERPOOL

Moreover, FPL managers can benefit from good games for Liverpool who seem to have found their feet. Virgil van Dijk (£5.9 million), Florian Wirtz (£8.4 million) and Hugo Ekitike (£8.9 million) are worth considering.

While many will wait until after Gameweek 31 to hit reset, this would now allow them to strike while the iron is hot and make mini-league wins as rivals slowly run their teams to death.

The Reds’ next four matches are all against teams in the bottom five.

CLOSE HAALAND AND SPREAD THE FUNDS?

There is also an argument for selling Erling Haaland (£14.9m), who came on at half-time against Fulham, scoring just three goals in nine games.

Granted, two have come from the last few runs, but it’s still only one open goal since Christmas. The Norwegian looks quite jaded, and Pep Guardiola has done the same Omar Marmoush (£8.3 million) to share his workload.

Haaland is training againAt least, but let’s listen to what Guardiola has to say about his niggly knee on Friday.

Fit or otherwise, could this be a good time to reallocate the Haaland funds to your team?

REASONS TO WAIT

ANOTHER WEEK WAIT FOR CHELSEA?

A case can be made for delaying it a little longer as Chelsea have a plum home game against Burnley this weekend.

Many of us will own a Blues player or three after their recent favorable run, and won’t want to sell them this week.

However, the subsequent run of Arsenal (a), Aston Villa (a), Newcastle United (h), Everton (a), Man City (h) and Manchester United (h) looks unpleasant, so it is arguably not a medium-term affair. A Gameweek 28 Wildcard could solve that.

ONGOING UNCERTAINTY ABOUT BLANKS/DOUBLES

Taking the plunge now is risky because we still I’m not sure how future blanks and doubles will land.

Gameweek 34 will be empty for the FA Cup semi-finalists and their scheduled opponents in the league. These matches can be moved to Gameweek 33 or 36. But we won’t know the full picture until the Gameweek 32 deadline, which is still a ways away.

OUTSTANDING MAN CITY PRE-GAME WEEK 31 RUN

While some FPL managers may be getting worried about Haaland, City in general are on the back foot.

Buoyed by Arsenal dropping points in the past week, the league is theirs if they win all their remaining games.

Antoine Semenyo (£7.9m) is in excellent form, while Marc Guehi (£5.2m) is also well established.

It’s fair to say Arsenal are low at the moment, but it’s important not to let City’s clean sheet blind you to their form and upcoming fixtures.

There is of course a solution: put City players on a Wildcard and draw up a contingency plan (bank them or sell them with collected free transfers) for the possible Blank Gameweek 31.
