Bentley Flying Spur speed sets new ice rink record

Bentley’s ultra-luxury performance sedan sets a new record.

Bentley’s range is rapidly evolving, thanks to the century-old manufacturer’s commitment to its journey towards electrification, and the retirement of its former flagship W12 powertrain in favor of a new hybrid twin-turbo V8 setup that develops unprecedented levels of power and performance. With 771 hp, the new Ultra Hybrid Performance Powertrain is responsible for the most powerful generations of the Bentley Flying Spur Speed and Bentley Continental GT/GTC Speed to date.

With that unparalleled power, the new Bentley Flying Spur Speed reached the world’s northernmost active racing circuit, the Drivecenter Arena in northern Sweden, just 160 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, to set a unique new record in the harsh winter season. The Drivecenter Arena, currently covered in snow and ice, served as a stage for Bentley to set the fastest lap time on the course under winter conditions with its Flying Spur Speed, namely 2:58.

A foot of ice and snow covered the track, but with all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering expertly utilizing the enormous power exerted by the new Flying Spur Speed, the car reached a maximum speed of 120 mph (190 km/h) during its record run. Bentley has its own history of ice speed records, in 2007 and 2011, but with its Ultra Performance Hybrid Powertrain and its advanced technology, the new Flying Spur Speeds ice record is an important new milestone.
