A day after a video of a woman in Bengaluru alleging a ‘completely naked’ man in a car sexually harassing her went viral on social media, Hebbagodi police registered a so motu case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the video shared to her Instagram account, the woman claimed she was returning home from work when a man sitting completely undressed in a car repeatedly shouted at her and drove the vehicle towards her in a threatening manner. In the video, she is heard screaming for help and accusing passersby of ignoring her distress. She further claimed that some people just smiled and walked away, assuming the incident was part of a social media reel.

Head Constable Rushabhendra, attached to Hebbagodi police station, filed a complaint after he came across the video while monitoring social media platforms. In his complaint, he stated that the video clearly showed the woman accusing a man in a car of sexually harassing her while she was undressed.

Based on the complaint, the police filed a report of sexual harassment with the BNZ on January 25. Efforts are currently being made to trace the suspect using CCTV footage from and around the area where the incident is said to have taken place. Police are also trying to locate the woman to record her statement.
