ABC will be gradually restored in the fire-hit Bendigo region from the end of next week, but full recovery will take several weeks.
Communities in the fire-affected Bendigo region can expect this
From the end of next week, ABC TV and radio services will be gradually restored in the fire-hit Bendigo region.
However, services may still be of lower quality for several weeks.
A damage assessment at the Mount Alexander transmission site has been carried out in conjunction with transmission provider BAI.
“Our teams, together with BAI and industry partners, have been working around the clock to restore services as quickly and safely as possible,” said Damian Cronan, ABC Chief Digital and Information Officer.
“Services will initially return at a lower power level, meaning some community members may experience reduced coverage and poorer signal quality until further restoration work is completed.
“We ask viewers and listeners to please bear with us as we gradually restore full transmission capacity over the coming weeks.
“Most viewers will need to rescan their TVs to receive ABC services again, but no antenna work is required. We will continue to provide updates as the restoration progresses.
“Thank you again for your patience as we get ABC back to full strength.”
What TV audiences can expect:
- Most households where TV services have been lost will have them restored once broadcasts resume.
- Initial image quality may not be as strong as normal if lower power equipment is present.
- There may be areas with reduced or no reception, including parts of the Echuca and Daylesford regions.
- It is expected that the quality and coverage will improve in the weeks following the restoration.
- BAI advises that full recovery will take several weeks.
Other broadcasters still need to update further.
