Ben Shelton has withdrawn from HSBC’s presentation of Abierto Mexicano Telcel to focus on recovery, the tournament announced on Friday.

The left-hander won his first title of the season last week in Dallas, beating compatriot Taylor Fritz in the ATP 500 final. According to the Acapulco tournament announcement, Shelton experienced discomfort in his quadriceps, which led to his decision to withdraw from the Mexican ATP 500 event.

The 23-year-old is off to a fast start in 2026, having reached the quarter-finals in Auckland, the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and lifted the trophy in Dallas. According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, he is 10-2 this season.

The No. 9 player in the PIF ATP Rankings has previously competed in Acapulco three times, with his best result coming in 2024, when he advanced to the quarter-finals before losing to Casper Ruud in three sets.
