An injury expert from the Premier League said this The Boy Hotspur Substack that he expects Dominic Solanke to be back in a Spurs shirt before Christmas, and expressed his expectations for teammates Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison.
“Dominic Solanke is closing in on a return to the first team for Spurs,” he said. “His recovery has proven to be a little slower than initially hoped, but medical staff will be cautious as he has not been involved for a few months.
“I expect Solanke to appear in and around the starting line-up in the very near future; perhaps early December and probably before Christmas. Spurs host Liverpool on December 20.e – they hope he is almost fully fit for that.
Maddison won’t be seen until 2026/2027
Dinnery added that he would be surprised if James Maddison appeared this season after his long-term ACL injury. He said:
“Any kind of return to the squad for James Maddison before the end of the season would be a huge bonus and the best-case scenario for Spurs,” he said. “Typically we estimate that we will be on the sidelines for between nine and 10 months with ACL injuries. One of the factors that could change the time frame is if Spurs push for a trophy towards the end of the season; they could look to bring Maddison back earlier so he can play in a crucial match.”
“There are cases where players can return from an ACL injury within six or seven months, but that comes with some issues. Any return to play within nine months carries an inherent risk of a recurring injury. While there is a possibility we could see him training away from home in March or April, I don’t think we will see Maddison return to the starting line-up this season.”
Dejan Kulusevski
When asked when Spurs fans can expect Dejan Kulusevski to return to the pitch, Dinnery said it would be very optimistic to see the Swedish forward back on the pitch for Spurs before 2026.
“Dejan Kulusevski’s situation is a little more complicated,” he said.
“His return date has been pushed back for some time, and it’s yet another example of a disruptive roadmap for a return from a long-term injury. There are always little hiccups and setbacks along the way.”
“It’s difficult to give an accurate prediction due to his lengthy recovery, but my guess would be a return to the field in early 2026, and possibly seeing him play in some friendlies or bounce matches.”
