Muhammad is set for his first fight since losing his welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena in May. He goes into the fight at UFC Qatar against Garry as a big underdog.
But despite being the underdog, Mohammed is confident he will overcome the turmoil. Ahead of his fight at UFC Qatar, Muhammad has an interesting game plan to achieve victory.
“Honestly, I think Ian is going to try to run around for the entire first lap,” Muhammad countered MMA Junkie. “But by the end of the first round, his little point jab isn’t going to work. Then I’m going to grab him, I’m going to take him down, and then I’m going to let him go back up just because I’m going to show him, ‘I can take you down if I want to.’ Then I’m going to box him out because he said he could beat me.
“He’s a nice striker, he’s been there with great strikers. He’s been there with MVP, he’s been there with Shavkat, he’s been there with Prates, and none of those guys have finished him. So for me, it sets him up and reminds everyone who I am.”
Belal Muhammad isn’t focusing on the title picture at UFC Qatar
If Mohammed raises his hand against Garry at UFC Qatar, he will be back in the title picture.
However, Belal Muhammad said he only focuses on raising his hand and not on what happens in a win.
“To me, it just focuses on one guy,” Muhammad said. “I don’t want to look past anyone. I don’t want to look past Saturday. Ask me that question Sunday, and I’ll give you an answer.”
Muhammad is 24-4 and one NC as a pro coming off the loss to Della Maddalena. Before that, he had an eleven-fight undefeated streak.
