This week, Carlos Alcaraz winds more than just his tennis racket in the US Open, where it is in the semi -final.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has changed his days off in New York in Golf Days, and on Wednesday he will come across one of his most difficult opponents to date: 2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia.
“It’s something that works well, so why should I change that routine? Every day I try to play some golf,” said Alcaraz after beating Jiri Lehecka in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon.
‘Tomorrow I will have a very difficult round against Juanki [Juan Carlos Ferrero] And Sergio Garcia is there. We will discuss tomorrow [how many shots I will get] But he has to give me at least 10 to 15 … I’m not so good, Sergio. Come on! ”
Each of the five victories of Alcaraz at the Arthur Ashe Stadium so far is not only interrupted with a roar of parties, but with a brutal golf swing.
The five -time big winner has himself loose and entertained during his campaign, which seems to have helped on the way to reaching the last four by a major without dropping a set for the first time in his career.
“I started playing at the beginning of 2020. I just love to play,” said Alcaraz, who explained his love for golf. “I used to get some balls in the driving range when I was really, very young. I liked it, but since 2020 I just started playing more, to go on the track, to play some holes. I just fell in love with golf.
“I started playing more and more. I saw myself improving, so it brought me even more to the Golf, and it has me. I just feel very peaceful when I go out and play some golf on the golf course.
“Tomorrow is Sergio here, so we’re going to play some golf. I will try to learn from them. My handicap is now 14. It goes down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it is a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.”
During his campaign, Alcaraz is in all departments areas, but his service was particularly deadly.
Alcaraz only dropped seven of the 45 points behind his first delivery and was not in front of a breaking point against Lehecka on the way to improvement to 3-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2head series.
“I have improved my serve a lot, and just every exercise, every game I tried to feel more at ease with the movement, with touching good services, and the percentage also for me, it is really important,” Alcaraz said.
“Tennis, it is sometimes very difficult, because one day you can really, very well, and the next game you can feel completely different and really bad. So I try to keep the focus on the serve, just try to do everything the same and get the good feeling.”
Alcaraz awaits four -time US Open Champion Novak Djokovic or finalist Taylor Fritz last year in the semi -final. He is only two wins removed from recovering the number 1 place in the PIF ATP rankings of rival and title defender Jannik Sinner.
