The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Bij) is preparing a framework to standardize standard temperatures of air conditioners in the range of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius to improve energy efficiency in the country.
Bee promotes the Ministry of Stream, the use of energy-efficient processes, equipment, devices and systems. It takes steps to encourage preferential treatment to use energy -efficient equipment or devices.

The Union Power Minister Manohar Lal said a press conference on Tuesday and said that the government is in conversation with device makers and states on the subject to standardize AC temperatures.
“Consultation is underway and as soon as it is over, the guidelines will be completed accordingly. Some states have asked to consider the humidity they have when making the guidelines,” Lal said without sharing further details.
When asked if ACs in cars will also have such standardized temperatures, the minister said that the government is also in consultation with car manufacturers.

Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal said that the move is aimed at improving energy efficiency in the country. Reduction of even 1 degrees helps 6 percent save energy.
“There are crores of ACs in the country and every year new is inaugurated. So you can imagine the savings,” he said.
