Bearman still wants answers to Haas performance despite the best results of the career | Racer

Ollie Bearman wants Haas to understand some of his weaknesses, despite obtaining a career-best sixth place after he started the Pitlane in the Dutch Grand Prix.

Haas chose to change the engine of the Bearman after he set up the 19th and slowest of those who have set in Q1 for a while, with teammate Esteban Ocon One Place for ahead in the 18th. Running a set of hard tires for the first 53 laps of the race before a Safety Car allowed him a free pit stop, Bearman says that happiness was on his side to secure a place in the top six.

“A long time will certainly come,” said Bearman. “Absolutely happiness, but when you start with the Pitlane, you need a little luck to get there.

“The most difficult thing was to restart those tires after every safety car, because when the tread becomes thinner, it is really difficult to maintain the temperature in those tires. And I spent the entire stint length in Drs. First it was it [Gabriel] Bortoleto, then Esteban. It is good to be in the drs, but it also destroys your tires, especially the front. I really held on to the dear life at the end, but we worked it out.

“It is difficult to catch up in this track, as long as you are in the Drs or the car in front of you, you will not be really overtaken. So I pushed like the hell to make sure I was staying in the Drs.”

Bearman finished 11th in four of his previous five races, and although the points are a welcome return, he says that the struggles on Saturday should understand both the side of Haas and his.

“It’s fun and I think we deserved a bit of luck. Likewise, there are still a few things that we have to understand as a team this weekend. Our FP3 version was the story of two halves between the hard band and the soft band, and also Quali real.

“So we have a bit of understanding why we were so slow at the end of Quali and not that performance in FP3. I think that as a team we need a little more and more hard work, but we also get there. I also work on my side to use cleaner versions and also give them a easier life.”

Team head Ayao Komatsu was frustrated by the performance of Haas in qualifying, but praised the team’s reaction on Sunday, in particular how the multiple periods of the security car went to get both cars in points, because OCON 10th was classified.

“I am really proud of the team effort because [Saturday] Was a tough day, “said Komatsu.” From starting P18 and in the Pitlane the opportunities was against us, but you can never give up, so thanks to everyone in the team.

“We started on the hard compound and the first timing of the security car was completely against us, that was perfect for medium -sized starters. The reaction was at that time to stay calm and focus.

“As I always say, we should get the basic principles good and I believe we did, and both drivers were great team players, and I can’t accuse it. [Sunday] Must be the benchmark, this is what we can do, so let’s do it again. “
