The future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Odi Cricket will only be decided after the World Cup 2026 T20, according to a report from PTI’s Kushan Sarkar.
Although there has been speculation that the BCCI looks beyond the two veterans in the 50-over format, the board is said to have no hurry to make that phone call.
BCCI focused on T20 plans for now
The report says that all current planning is aimed at the T20 World Cup 2026, which is the immediate priority for the selectors and team management.
Suggestions that the BCCI has already decided to continue from Kohli and Rohit in ODIs are rejected as speculation.
The couple played for the last time for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where both played an important role in the title victory of the team on Nieuw -Zeeland.
Kohli scored 218 points in five innings on an average of 54.50, while Rohit provided crucial starts and scored 180 points in the tournament.
Age factor spark debate
Despite their constant ODI success, there are still questions about whether the duo should play the next ODI World Cup. Kohli is now 36 and Rohit 38, and many think the transition to younger players should start soon.
If Rohit removes from ODIs, Shubman Gill is the leader who takes over the captain. The 24-year-old is impressed by his early Stint as a test captain and is currently ODI vice-captain.
For now, fans will have to wait until after the T20 World Cup to know if two of the modern greats of India will continue their ODI trip.
