Rohit and Virat last played for India in the ODI series in Australia where the visitors lost 1-2. The pair returned to the side after a break of almost seven months after the 2025 Champions Trophy final. Kohli registered back-to-back ducks in the first two games, but the duo guided the team to victory in the final match.

The report added that the BCCI has advised Rohit Sharma to focus on fitness and performance without commenting on speculation about his future. During the upcoming meeting with the two senior batsmen, the board plans to outline the concerns of the selectors and the team management.
Maintaining top fitness is a challenge for Rohit and Virat Kohli as they play only one format. Although both scored in the final ODI against Australia, the officials felt that the series was already out of reach.
