Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaks ahead of Saturday’s match.
Newcastle United kick off after the last (October) international break.
Against Brighton at the Amex Stadium during the 3pm kick-off.
Newcastle United’s players know how big this will be if they can achieve three wins in a row, followed by Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are now nine weeks into the new season.
Chris Suton talk to BBC Sport – October 16, 2025:
“I was impressed with Newcastle when I saw them against Forest. Their midfield is so powerful and they have good options in width.”
“I don’t think they will start shooting well up front until Yoane Wissa is fit to help Nick Woltemade, but defensively they look quite solid and that is backed up by their results on the road.
“Newcastle have drawn all three away games in the league this season, without scoring or conceding.
“The goals will come but I don’t think they have enough to beat a Brighton team who always look dangerous even when they aren’t playing that well.
“The Seagulls have drawn two out of three at home so far, so I think this is a draw too.
“Prediction: Brighton 1 Newcastle 1”
I think this is a fairly fair overview from the BBC Sport pundit.
Chris Sutton on the money this time?
Like many other experts, he is going for a draw in this match. No surprise if three of the last four matches between Brighton and Newcastle at the Amex Stadium have ended in a draw, while five of the last seven have also ended in a stalemate.
Newcastle United have scored eleven goals in the last four matches, four of which against Bradford (Carabao Cup), one against Arsenal (Premier League), four against Union SG (Champions League) and two against Forest (Premier League).
Brighton have conceded at least once in all seven of their Premier League games this season, while Nick Pope has kept a clean sheet in five of Newcastle’s seven games. The partnership between Thiaw and Botman for Pope has impressed with every passing game and as a team United have defended very well.
The starting XI that Eddie Howe plays today, before Benfica on Tuesday, could be decisive in how likely Newcastle fans are to view this as a winnable match, rather than perhaps thinking another draw is most likely.
Brighton are a dangerous opponent, but very up and down, while, as mentioned above, their defense doesn’t seem to be the force it once was.
