Bayern ‘plan new Guehi talks’ as soon as possible – FIFA rule adds Liverpool risk

Marc Guehi will be able to speak to clubs outside England about a free transfer from January 1, exactly when Bayern Munich plan to start talks.

If Heaven Germany It is believed that it could be a busy New Year’s Day for the Crystal Palace captain.

They report that Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, having already been in contact with Guehi’s agent, plans to hold talks with the player himself on January 1.

That comes amid interest from not just Liverpool, but also Real Madrid and Barcelona – albeit clearly to different degrees.

It is suggested that Bayern could look to sign Guehi and tie Dayot Upamecano to a new long-term contract.

Why Bayern could have an edge over Liverpool

With Premier League clubs unable to hold formal talks with the 25-year-old until June – the final month of his Palace contract – there is a possibility that Bayern steals a march on Liverpool.

One thing is certain: Guehi has no plans to extend his stay at Selhurst Park, with previous reports claiming he will look for a club that regularly competes for the Champions League.

However, Liverpool may feel they have an advantage as they have already agreed personal terms with the England international in the summer.

Guehi was halfway through medical treatment when Palace chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug on a £35million deal on deadline day, and for a time it was believed that a move to Anfield in the summer was a done deal.

Whether that remains the case due to the high interest elsewhere in Europe and Liverpool’s struggles this season under Arne Slot is unclear.

It would be foolish to believe that Guehi’s camp will not continue dialogue with the Premier League champions, regardless of FIFA rules on Bosman transfers.

The hope will be that the work done by Richard Hughes in 2025 will pay off again if the Reds are to beat Bayern to a second signing in as many summers – following the £116m deal for Florian Wirtz in June.

Liverpool are currently short at centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate the only regular starters in the position and Joe Gomez at right-back.

But even with Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the rest of the season, there are strong doubts over a mid-season move for Guehi.
