Bayern Munich have opened contract talks with Harry Kane.

The England captain’s current deal – which he signed when he joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million in August 2023 – runs until June 2027.

Kane has scored 119 goals in 126 appearances for the German giants, so it is no surprise that club chiefs are keen to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl appeared at the DFL’s New Year’s reception on Monday and was asked about Kane’s contractual situation.

How much does Harry Kane currently earn at Bayern Munich?

Kane’s current Bayern contract is said to be worth around €480,000 per week, excluding bonuses.

The 32-year-old is already the highest-earning player in the German Bundesliga, while the only two players in the whole of Europe known to have a higher weekly wage are Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe was world football’s top scorer in 2025, scoring 59 club goals – three more than Kane.

Bundesliga clubs are posting record turnover figures

Bayern appear to be in a strong position to offer Kane a new contract after it was confirmed that German professional football generated record revenues during the 2024/2025 season.

The Deutsche Fussball Liga (DFL) announced on Monday that the 36 clubs in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga achieved a combined turnover of €6.33 billion – the highest total in the history of German football and an increase of 7.9% on the previous campaign.

Top clubs also benefited from growth in all major revenue streams, with broadcasting remaining the largest contributor, followed by commercial and matchday revenues, as attendance continued to recover post-pandemic.

The second division also recorded a significant year-on-year increase, generating more than €1.2 billion, helped by the presence of historically big clubs such as Hamburg, Schalke and Cologne.

In both divisions, 28 of 36 clubs reported making a profit, compared to just 17 the year before – a clear sign that German football’s financial recovery is now well established.

Looking back on the figures, DFL chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “Today, German professional football is in better shape than ever before, based on the core figures.”

Watzke added that clubs can now approach the 2026 World Cup “with confidence and optimism” while continuing to invest in youth development, women’s football and international growth.

Good news for Alan Shearer?

Should Kane decide to stay at Bayern long-term, his chances of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record would be significantly reduced.

Kane is currently second on the list of all-time leading Premier League scorers with 213 goals in 320 games. Shearer, who retired in 2006, is 47 goals ahead of Kane, having previously scored 260 times in 441 appearances for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.

If Kane does not return to English club football, the man likely to break Shearer’s record will likely be Haaland, who earlier this season became the fastest player to score 100 Premier League goals.
