Barron is back in his home province with three runners on some sort of surprise mission.
With suitable races down south and the chance to catch up with family, there was plenty of motivation for the West Melton trainer to pack up his car and try to add to the more than 100 races he has won at his former home track.
“Everything worked out and the horses seem to have traveled down really well,” Barron said
“I am very happy with them.”
Barron brings Munroe’s Mate south with a creditable sixth place on Show Day at Addington.
“His Cupweek run was good, he ran sixth and he wasn’t far off them.”
“He really seems to be getting around to it now.”
“He’s a big boy and a trip like this will do him a lot of good.”
“He went through a phase where he was galloping and we don’t know why, but we have the pacifiers with him now and he seems happy.”
“He has the draw and I think he will give them plenty to think about.”
Aspirational Dream also heads south for Barron after a creditable run during New Zealand Cup Week.
The mare only slipped by a short margin when coming second at Ashburton.
Fourth and on form, the four-year-old looks a nice winning hope.
“She seems really good too, her run at Ashburton was great.”
“Last year she ran third behind Keyang Zahara in the Trotting Oaks.”
“There have been a few frustrations along the way, just little things like tying up and things like that.”
“But she seems to be in a good position at the moment and it seems to be a good race for her.”
Another Vinnie will start at long odds ahead of Barron in the two-year event on Wednesday.
Although the pacer has not shown it in his two starts so far, he has shown his coaching promise at home and is working on better form.
Barron’s brother Clark will start a team of four at Ascot Park, including the favorite for the main trot in Bring On The Muscle.
The four-year-old appeared to reach his peak in his last start in third at Winton.
However, he ran a smooth 3.03 in a recent 2400m Wyndham training session, suggesting he will be looking fitter this week.
Bring On The Muscle shares the 40 meter gap with Julie Jackka and Jimmy Carter.
Clark Barron also starts Majestic Challen on Wednesday, Herb and last week’s winner, Mr President.
