Barrieau teams with TH Boomtown in the Summerside showdown

SUMMER SIDE, PE – Tuesday night’s harness racing schedule at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway includes 15 sprints starting at 6 p.m. with a mid-card feature in Race 8 and a late classified clash in Race 14.

The Race 8 pace costs $5,100 and looks set to be a showdown between a number of proven campaigners. Doc Awesome is in charge with David Dowling at the controls for co-owner and trainer Darla MacEachern and co-owners Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron. The five year old son of All bets off has been a model of consistency with top-three finishes in his last five starts, including a 1:55.3 Summerside win in his last in which he circled the field.

TH Boomtown, from post 2, looms as the morning line choice, with Gilles Barrieau handling the lines for trainer Ron Matheson. The son of Captain Crunch has recorded four wins this campaign, including a 1:56.2 victory in his last start on a muddy track at Red Shores Charlottetown.

Rounding out the top selections are American Risk, a nine-year veteran with 52 lifetime victories who will start from post 3 for trainer George Rennison and driver Brady Sweet. He last found the Summerside winner’s circle on September 9, winning that day in 1:56.4, and has since beaten the top class on his home turf twice at Truro Raceway in Bible Hill, NS.

Sauble Attack (controlled by Ken Murphy) has post 4 from the Paul Biggar shed and Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) is the post 5 starter for trainer Phil Sizer.

The Backstretch Beat puts TH Boomtown on top.

“TH Boomtown is the class of this group on paper and looks poised to keep his winning momentum rolling. He’s been firing on all cylinders lately, showing both early gate speed and finishing power. With Barrieau back on the bike and a good post to work with, he’s clearly the one they’ll be targeting when the wings fold.”

The spotlight returns in Race 14, where Rose Run from Cornwall. The six-year-old McArdle son was a winner in his last Summerside outing with a front-end 1:56.2 score.

His greatest enemies include Howmac Maximus (Langille) and Howmac Exclusive (MacPherson).
