However, Real Madrid still leads the all-time head-to-head when it comes to Clasicos in the final.

Barcelona won a five-goal classic to beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the 2026 Supercopa final in Saudi Arabia.

La Liga champions Barcelona had secured their place in the final on Wednesday by beating Athletic Bilbao 5-0, before Real Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 the following day.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the 36th minute of the final and later scored the winner in the second half. The remaining three goals all came in first-half stoppage time, with Vinicius Junior, Robert Lewandowski and Gonzalo Garcia getting their names on the scoresheet.

There have now been exactly 90 goals scored in the final between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barcelona scored 40 of those goals, with the 2026 Supercopa only the eighth trophy they have won, beating Real Madrid in the final.

Real Madrid have defeated Barcelona in eleven previous finals, including seven in the Supercopa.

Real Madrid still leads Barcelona in the head-to-head final of the Supercopa

Despite their defeat in the 2026 edition, Real Madrid’s head-to-head record against Barcelona in the Supercopa final remains strong.

The capital club defeated Barcelona over two games in 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1997, before losing a Clasico classic 5-4 in 2011.

Real Madrid went on to win the 2012 final on the old away goals rule, after losing 3–2 at Camp Nou and then winning 2–1 at the Bernabeu.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored in the 2017 Supercopa final, which Real Madrid won 5-1 on aggregate.

But despite Real Madrid’s superior record against Barcelona in the Supercopa final, Barcelona actually has the edge since the final became a one-off.

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-2 in the 2025 Supercopa final. They also beat Real Madrid 3-1 in 2023, but lost 4-1 in 2024.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have each defeated each other in four Copa del Rey finals

Outside of the Supercopa, Real Madrid and Barcelona have not yet met in a European final. However, they clashed eight times in the Copa del Rey final.

Last season’s final ended in a 3–2 victory for Barcelona, after Jules Kounde scored the decisive goal late in extra time in Seville.

Real Madrid had previously defeated their fierce rivals in 2014 and 2011, but Barcelona still holds the edge over Real Madrid when it comes to their head-to-head record in Copa del Rey finals, having recorded victories in 1990, 1983, 1968 and 1936 – when the two teams faced off in their first ever competitive final.

When will Barcelona and Real Madrid meet in a final?

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are still in the Copa del Rey this season, so a meeting in the 2025/26 final remains a possibility.

The same applies in Europe. At the time of writing, the first ever Clasico Champions League final cannot be ruled out.

However, due to the number of rounds and teams involved in the respective tournaments, it is very likely that the 20th Clasico final will again take place in the Supercopa.

For now, both teams will shift their focus to La Liga, where Barcelona are well positioned to win back-to-back titles for the first time since 2019.

Barcelona’s recent dominance is highlighted by the fact that they are ten points ahead of Real Madrid in the 2025 La Liga calendar year table.
