Barcelona prefer a Premier League winger to a deal for Rashford

Barcelona would rather sign Manchester City winger Savinho this summer than complete a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford.

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Barcelona last summer and has had a positive impact in Catalonia.

The 28-year-old has scored ten goals and nine assists in all competitions and can be signed for a modest £26million at the end of the season. However, he has only started two of the club’s last seven La Liga matches when fit, raising doubts over a permanent contract.

According to The National, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is said to be ‘willing to miss Rashford’ if the club can secure a deal for Savinho. The latter has only played five games in the Premier League for Manchester City this season and was in the interest of Tottenham Hostspur last summer.

He signed a new contract after a bid from Spurs was rejected but could consider his options after losing his place following the signings of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo.

City are said to be demanding a fee in excess of £50 million for the 21-year-old, a fee that could be unaffordable for Barcelona.

However, the Spanish champions could explore a deal if Savinho is available, having impressed with the winger during a previous La Liga spell with Girona. It is believed that Flick considers Savinho to be a better tactical fit than Rashford for his plans.
