Barcelona racet against the clock to secure a stadium in front of their La Liga fixture against Valencia on 13-14 September.
The Blaugranas Priority continues to play in Spotify Camp Nou, albeit with a reduced capacity of around 27,000 seats.
While the first phase of redevelopment has received the final certification, Barça is still waiting for the green light of the city council before opening the stadium for supporters.
Barcelona Coul host Valencia in Estadi Johan Cruyff
In the meantime, Estadi Johan Cruyff has emerged as the strongest alternative, reports SPORT. However, to organize a La Liga memory, the land requires upgrades to meet the competition standards.
The most urgent problem is capacity. La Liga regulations demand at least 15,000 seats for top competitions, while the Johan currently only owns 6,000.
Barça has two possible solutions: request an exceptional dispensation from La Liga or install temporary stands for another 8,000 spectators.
Moreover, the stadium is currently not equipped for VAR, which means that the club must install the video technology system prior to the competition.
Barcelona will soon have to inform La Liga about their intentions, but hopeful that the competition will approve it as a one -off location until the Camp Nou is operational.
Barça has until the beginning of next week to complete a solution, but the visit of La Liga representatives to Estadi Johan Cruyff underlines the severity of the unforeseen plan.
Obstacles on the road
Barça’s first approach, to change the luminaire order and instead playing at Mestalla, was rejected by La Liga, who argued that the competition rules forbid the schedule to return the schedule.
The administrative body also emphasized that no club can start the season with more than three consecutive away games. Flick’s silk is already to Son Moix (Mallorca) and the City of Valencia (Levante) and will visit Vallecas next to Rayo Vallecano.
Another considered option was Montilivi, the home stadium of Girona, but this was quickly rejected because the field is planned for renovation during those dates.
As such, if a return to Camp Nou is excluded, the Valencia match could now be played in Estadi Johan Cruyff.
