Bangladesh have announced a 15-member squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das will lead the side, which means a big responsibility for him in a global event. Bangladesh will be banking on a mix of experience and young energy as they hunt for their first-ever semi-final spot.
Litton will receive key batting support from openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon, both known for their quick starts. The middle order features Tawhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain and Saif Hassan, players expected to keep the innings steady if early wickets fall.
The bowling attack is led by senior pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, who continue to be Bangladesh’s main wicket-taking options. The spin department consists of Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain, giving the team variety on slower surfaces.
Bangladesh are placed in Group C alongside England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy. The top two teams from the group will advance to the Super Eights, which begin on February 21.
If they make it, the top four teams from the Super Eights will qualify for the knockouts. The semi-finals will be played in Kolkata and Colombo, while Mumbai will also host a semi-final. The final is scheduled for March 8 in Ahmedabad or Colombo.
Bangladesh have participated in every T20 World Cup so far but have never reached the semi-finals. They will start their campaign against West Indies on the opening day of the tournament, February 7.
The team’s announcement also comes amid tension off the field. After the BCCI requested Mustafizur’s release from the IPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board requested that the World Cup matches be shifted from Bangladesh to Sri Lanka. The International Cricket Council has not yet responded to the request.
Selection from Bangladesh: Litton Kumar Das (C), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Tawhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Shaif Uddin, Shoriful Islam.
