Nalin Haley, son of former US Ambassador of Indian descent and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, has refocused on the H-1B visa program while calling on Republicans to prioritize issues affecting young Americans. In a recent appearance on Fox News, he argued that young people are increasingly feeling left out of the U.S. labor market and housing economy, saying Republican leaders are not addressing their concerns.Haley said the first step for the party was to recognize the growing divide between young Americans and the opportunities they had been promised. “The goal of every generation is to leave better than you thought it was going to be, and now that we don’t do that, we’re going in the opposite direction and it’s going to get worse and worse,” he said, adding that Republican leaders were not addressing these concerns. “Congress is nothing more than a glorified nursing home. They don’t know the problems we face, or they ignore it, and I don’t know which is worse.”Haley points to rising unemployment among graduates and says many of his colleagues with strong academic credentials cannot find work. “My group of friends graduated with great degrees from great schools and not one of them has a job,” he noted, arguing that they now have to compete with “foreign workers who are willing to work half their salary and AI, which is a supercomputer.”He linked these frustrations to the housing market and said that first-time buyers in the housing market are older than ever. Haley has taken a series of policy steps, including eliminating the H-1B program. “I think there are some things we need to do: ban H1b visas, make sure companies hire a certain number of Americans… and not allow companies and the Chinese Communist Party to buy up entire neighborhoods of single-family homes,” he said. He also argued that subsidies should prioritize American homebuyers over undocumented immigrants.Asked about complaints that young Americans want “free things,” Haley said the real problem was the declining feasibility of the American dream. “Right, it seems less and less feasible every day,” he responded, adding that rejecting neoliberal free-market policies did not necessarily mean embracing socialism. “Capitalism is a broad thing. We need it to work for the average American, not just elites and corporations.”Haley warned that Republicans risk losing Gen Z if they don’t act more directly. “If you look at Generation Z, most of them have a positive view of socialism… Democratic socialists are reaching young people,” he said. “So if the Republicans do that, which they need to do, it could keep a lot of people my age from going to the Democrats.”
