According to sources, the company has around 39 boilers in its order book. Most orders concerned boilers with an installed capacity of 800 MW. The total value of orders received by BHEL for boilers for building thermal power plants and others has crossed ₹1.80 lakh crore.
Since the company started receiving high-profile orders from 2024 and 2025, it started looking for small, micro and medium suppliers to manufacture additional boiler parts so that it could fulfill its order commitments to various companies within the stipulated time. The company has dedicated most of its machinery and personnel to boiler production.
However, according to sources, the BHEL is dependent on deploying more support units to expedite production of various components of the boilers. Therefore, a number of steps have been taken to increase the number of suppliers.
Reliable sources said The Hindu that the BHEL had roped in more than 100 suppliers for production of boiler components since April 2025. They have been added to the list based on various parameters. With the addition of new suppliers, their total has passed 200. Many of them have been given heavy orders.
The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) had been roped in to facilitate loans to the micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai, which are listed as suppliers to the BHEL for boiler parts manufacturing. More steps have been taken to expand the list of suppliers for outsourcing various works in 2026-2027.
