Pakistan National Cricket Team has announced their team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, and the selectors have made a number of daring phone calls. Former Captain Babar Azam, Wicketkeeper-Batter Mohammad Rizwan and Pacer Naseem Shah have all been left from the team.
The decision is not a shock for many fans. Both Babar and Rizwan were confronted with criticism of their low strike rates in T20 Cricket. Although Babar has been Pakistan’s most reliable batter over the formats, his pavement rate of 129 in T20is has often delayed the team. Rizwan also has difficulty speeding up, hit 125, the selectors thought it was not enough for the modern game.
Naseem Shah has meanwhile fought injuries and inconsistent form. With other available pace options, the management decided to continue without him.
Agha Salman to lead Pakistan
Middle Order Batter Agha Salman is familiar with the captain. He will lead the same team in the Asia cup and the Tri series against the VAE and Afghanistan. The team includes aggressive batters such as Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Haris, who are expected to bring an fearless approach.

One of the remarkable inclusions is Mohammad Wasim Jr. The fast bowler played a T20i in January 2024 for the last time, but impressed by strong performance in domestic cricket. His return reinforces Pakistan’s bowling attack for the Asia Cup -challenge.
Pakistan’s movement to omit two of their biggest names shows a clear shift to aggressive batting. The Asia Cup will now test whether this new side in Crunch games can deliver without their most experienced players.
