In the sixth race Saratoga Race Course August 8, 2-year-old first starter and tact The gate bumped during the break, broke slowly, stayed behind 19 1/2 lengths and ran one of the most impressive races of the summer meeting.
The connections of Aye Eye were more like “Ai Yi Yi” when the gates opened and their horse was literally not visible anywhere. Neither the horse nor its tracking chip appeared on the screen for at least half of the six-exchange race.
But when the field came the last turn, there was gray/roan foal, still far back, but eating. Ruiter Javier Castellano had kept the son of Essential quality Close to the rail, but now it waved him wide, but not wide enough to prevent you from being stuck behind horses.
Castellano went to the left, went to the right, on a horse full of run with nowhere to go. Five wide he moved four paths within half a dozen steps and then slid to the rail Tactic Pull away to win with 1 1/2 lengths.
“That was a big, exciting race for all of us,” said trainer Joe Orseno. “I’ve never won such a race.”
Castellano had never been to the horse and the only instructions that Orseno gave him were trying to overcome the inner pole.
“It’s hard for horses because you first have to load and you have to wait for the rest of the field,” said Castellano. “It’s a process for the horses. You don’t know how to react.”
Which Plan Castellano had was left at the gate when Aye Eye walked outside. Going to the lead was no longer an option, so the jockey had to think if he should make a stitch to fight the race or write the race and hope for more happiness next time.
“I didn’t hurry,” he said. “I let him develop the pace myself and took my time. I lost no confidence. I gave him a chance to develop himself. When I tapped him, he jumped on the main list and started traveling better. I didn’t have to use him much.”
After the race, Orseno said that the foal had shown courage during morning training … but only when he was on the outside. On the inside he was satisfied to travel with the horses with whom he collaborated.
It is good that Castellano did not know that before the race, because he had to decide to go wide or go inside at the top of the piece, he chose the last one.
“I decided not to go outside because I didn’t want to split horses,” he said. “Sometimes when you split horses, you reduce the speed a little, or you get close and the horse hesitates a bit. But then I saw a lot of traffic, and I saw that there was room inside. We moved to that hole and he left.”
Aye Eye was the longest shot in the field with eight horses, went on 26.50-1 and paid $ 55 to win.
An RNA of $ 140,000 during the yearling sale of last year September September, Aye Eye was bred in Kentucky by Betz Thoroughbrreds, DJ Stables/Graves/Gainesway/Lamantia/Ramsby. He was bought by Robert Cotran during the phasig-tipton Midlantic Sale of 2-year-olds of this year in training for $ 45,000.
Due to essential quality, it is from the Divine Park mare Divine A winner with several bets that retired with a win of $ 339,344.
Joe Orseno
If Aye Eye had met his reserve as a yearling, he would not have been eligible for the race he won, which is limited to horses sold in their most recent sales or were RNAs for $ 60,000. It is the condition that Orseno led to send from his New Jersey basis. The situation was so popular that it was split into two divisions last Friday, whereby Orseno turned in both legs.
“We came with the horse in the first race, and when the races were split, it was a no-brainer to bring it too,” said the trainer.
While the break of Aye Eye Castellano Schroot, all the plan he had, can do the same, based on the performance of the foal.
“To be honest, we have thought of turf, all together with this horse, because of the way he goes in the morning, but the way he just ran, we have to think about a number of different things. It’s a good problem to have.”
