After being checked and broken at the 1700 meters, by Axel Rose (Solo) Trainer-driver Matty Williamson got him going again and tacked onto the back of the main part of the field before taking him on a quest to take the lead.
“I knew he had a motor, but once he was galloping I told him not to gallop too long, mate. All his runs were great, but on his last start he really impressed me with how strong he was off the line and it made me think I should have launched him a bit earlier. This time I didn’t wait so long.”
Today the horse had the talent to get away in the straight and win by six and a half lengths, with Williamson failing to activate the removable deafening devices.
AXEL ROSE REPEAT
“He feels like a good horse. He feels very strong, gets into the rhythm and keeps his speed. He has a very good engine, so it’s about him developing and working on his manners. I think he will be an exciting horse for us.”
The three-year-old is owned by Tony Gow, Graeme Anderson, Steve Pulley, Ray Chalkin and Peter Soper and comes from Pegarose, which won two races for Matty’s brother Nathan.
Williamson confirmed that Axel Rose will now head to the paddock.
“He’s a pretty big horse, so he’s going to get a lot stronger. He’s come a long way in a short time, so I think if we stay patient, we’ll have something.”
