Key Points
  • Germany suspends all exports of military equipment that can be used in Gaza.
  • The Minister of Defense of Australia says that the share of the country in the Supply Chain Lockheed Martin is a separate problem.
  • Richard Marles claims that the export of Australia is not on the same scale as Germany and has a limited impact.
Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles says that every action with regard to the export of Australia from components to Israel will probably not have an impact on the war in Gaza, after he had repeated that Australia did not deliver weapons to Israel.
Marles was asked on Sunday if Australia would follow Germany’s lead to suspend all exports of military equipment that could be used in Gaza.

The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, a conservative whose support for Israel was a basis for his election campaign, announced last week that he would not allow an export of military equipment that could be used for further notification in Gaza “.

Speaking of the ABC’s Insiders program on Sunday, Marles was asked if Australia would stop exporting armored steel and components for F-35-Jets to Israel.
Marles said that Australia did not deliver weapons to Israel and that there was “a lot of wrong information” around this issue.

When he was further pressed on the issue of components, he said that Australia was part of the F-35-Supply Chain and had been for decades.

“That is a multi-slateral arrangement with supply chains organized by Lockheed Martin in the United States and have several supplies with regard to all those supply chains,” he said.
But he said that was “a very different question” than the issue of a weapon of weapons.

Marles said that components were “a separate problem, and this is about having an impact on Israel”.

“There is no step that we can take here, which has some impact with regard to the activities of Israel. And it is a very different demand than what is being discussed with regard to Germany, which clearly has a significant supply in Israel,” he said.

“We want to do everything we can to put an end to the hostilities that occur in Gaza. The most important thing that we can do is use our international voice here and that is what we have done.”

After the US, Germany is the next largest weapon supplier to Israel.

The Greens and Pro-Palestinian groups have put pressure on the government in recent months about its military trade schemes with Israel.

In response to Marles’s remark, Greens Senator David Shoebridge said: “If the Albanian government stopped the export from F-35 rays to Israel, their F-35 fleet would be grounded.”
“International law is crystal clear, parts of weapons are weapons,” he added.

“Australia is an important part of the F35 jet hunter program. We are the only place in the world that makes parts such as the bomb doors and we work as one of the few regional distribution hubs.”

Anthony Albanese responds to calls for sanctions against Israel

In the meantime, Prime Minister Anthony has made Albanian calls to impose sanctions on Israel.

“No, we make decisions and we never predict one of those measures, but sometimes it’s just a slogan. I mean, sanctions, I have done this before at a press conference that you are talking about,” he replied.

“People are not clear. What we have to do here is to have very clear explanations and actions from the Australian government that make a difference instead of responding to a slogan on a protest.

“What we do is make a difference. The sanctions that we have put on the Israeli ministers of the government are a serious action given the actions of those ministers. So it is completely appropriate.”

Albanian also repeated the call of his government for Israel to give up her plan to grab control of Gaza City, which was approved by Israel’s security cabinet on Friday.

“We called for an immediate cessation -the Furen,” he told reporters on Sunday morning after a meeting with Kiwi opposite Chris Luxon.
“We have called for the release of hostages and we called for the unobstructed access to help to Gaza.

“We have a humanitarian catastrophe that unfolds there. And the idea that it can be continued as usual is completely unacceptable.”

Concern about Palestinian state recognition under Hamas

Spokesperson for the Opposition Home Affairs Andrew Hastie said that he hesitated to recognize the state of Palestine with Hamas, which is mentioned by Australia as a terrorist organization, still in “prime position” to control Gaza.
“If they were moving to elections, let’s say that the Gaza conflict arrived and that they moved to elections, what guarantee would Hamas not win any other majority?” He told Sky News.
Interior Minister Tony Burke said, however, that it would not be unprecedented for Australia to acknowledge a country, while part of it was occupied by a terrorist organization.
“There have often been countries where half of that nation is occupied by a terrorist group and we have not stopped recognizing the country,” he said.
“Both Syria and Iraq had a long period in which parts of those countries were occupied and realistically controlled by ISIS.”
