While Australia is preparing to play Belgium in their 2025 Davis Cup 2nd Round qualification in Sydney, we look back on the last time the two countries met in the International Men’s Team Competition.
In Australia’s most recent Davis Cup-comparators playing against Belgium during the Finals Round-Robin stage of 2022, Jason Kubler proved that he was the challenge in green and gold.
After Thanasi Kokkinakis had withdrawn from the draw due to illness, Kubler, World No.97 at that time, stepped up to face Zizou Berg. During the debut he defeated the Belgian 6-4 1-6 6-3 when Australia came a step closer to the Davis Cup final.
“It feels great to finish my debut [with a win] After being a break in the third, I am very happy. It is a special way to start my Davis Cup career, “said Kubler.

We have a lot of depth and it will be a big challenge, but I will be back on our boys.”

Played with the draw for a small, neutral audience in Hamburg, Germany, not much public support was generated for the Australians. It was left to Kokkinakis and the leftover players to set up Kubler.
“That [tie] Was a bit different because there was not much audience support there, because it was in Hamburg, “thought Kokkinakis.” This [upcoming tie in Sydney] Will be another boiler with fish – our home support will be huge and that atmosphere.
“If things don’t look good for us or our back against the wall, we know that trusting the crowd and watching the boys on the sidelines can give you that extra push.”
Alex de Minaur confirmed Australia’s opening result with a commander 6-2 6-2 victory over David Goffin. The World No. 22 only committed three casual mistakes in the 66 -minute triumph.

“I went outside and got the job done,” said the Minaur. “It is what the team expects from me, so I am in the clouds that I was able to deliver today.”
Reigning Wimbledon Her UWUBBELS Champions Matt Ebden and debutant Max Purcell provided a clean sweep, because they prevailed on experienced duo Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.
The Triumph of Australia about Belgium gave the team the confidence for the rest of the Davis Cup campaign of 2022. Two months later they went on to their first Davis Cup final since 2003, with knock-out stage victories in the Netherlands and Croatia.
