De Leeuwen again claimed the victory in Brisbane despite a late push from the Wallabies, who got into the dying sintels of the game.
Their efforts just came too late with the score that finished 27-19 for the tourists and the Wallabies will now have a lot of work for the second test.
Here the Chris Foy of Mail Sport assesses the performances of the Lions in the Suncorp Stadium.
Hugo Keenan – 6
There was one avoidable leak in the first half and he was expropriated to give the Wallabies their first attempt. Couldn’t really cut loose with the ball from deep.
Tommy Freeman – 6.5
A few good moments of the English wing when he used his power in good effect, but he was not as smooth and insured as he can be.
Marriage Jones – 8
An attempt at an attempt was to deny when he was assessed to be held on the ground, but the subtlety of his running lines and footwork caused so many problems.
Huw Jones caused Australia many problems, because the Lions claimed the victory in Brisbane
Sibeloulou-8
One of those players who have gradually built up Momentum in recent weeks and he proved his test here with an attempt, Gainline Impact and Canny Passing.
James Lowe – 4
A loose early staircase that died, betrayed the fact that he is either no form or was overcome by nerves. Struggled to impose himself because he has all the tour.
Finn Russell – 8
When the lions had their tail in the first half, the no. 10 was the subliest and sublime. The first attempt by the visitors was a showcase of his creative sparkle. Genius.

Jamison Gibson-Park-5.5
Made a sloppy, hesitant start and completely recovered in any stage. At his best he is such a high pace Dynamo, but this was not one of those competitions.
Ellis Geng –
Thunderous early Carry’s showed that the English prop busted with an aggressive intention and he maintained that front foot tone during a nice version. 7.5
And Sheehan – 7
Such a familiar face to see the ultra-mobile whore touching through a corner flag. As always, he was effective in the wide channels and he was good.
Tadhg Furlong – a few times there were a glimpse of his rumbling Prime and he stopped, plus he showed a smooth treatment but could not inspire Scrum – Dominance.
Maro Itoje (Capt) – 6
A reliable outlet, but this was not one of those large occasions that he is only the Imperious Ringmaster. A lot of effort, but some errors and indiscipline.

Joe McCarthy – 7
The impressive enforcer made a stack of tackles in the opening minutes to lead the defensive attack. Tough, prominent and almost scored an attempt, but asked early.
Tadhg Beirne – 7
After he had hit and missed in the touring races, he demonstrated his Jackal threat from the start. He was chosen to add to the Breakdown -presence of the lions and did that.
Tom Curry – 8.5
Andy Farrell supported him to come to the great opportunity and he delivered. The renowned hit-man dominated so many collisions and was an effective link man in Attack.

Jack Conan – 6.5
Hardly a furious talisman of the ball-bearing effort, but the No. 8 came to the fore late. When he made a break, his off-load was off-target, but continued.
Replacement
O Chessum for McCarthy, 42 – could not add influence as he had in Canberra. 5.5.
A porter for Genge, 48 – punished shortly after he was going when Tide turned. 5.
B AKI for Tuipulotu, 57 brought a touch of a forward to restore order. 6.
W Stuart for Furlong, 57-Verscheen Much as a carrier in his last shift. 6.
B Earl for Curry, 57 feed off a few charges after postponing without arms. 6.
R Kelleher for Sheehan, 60. M Smith for Russell, 66. A Mitchell for Gibson-Park, 74.
