The search of Toronto Maple Leafs for a new fit next to Auston Matthews seems to have found his answer for the 2025-26 season in Max Domi, and the team’s franchise center is entirely on board.
Head coach Craig Berube has guided Domi alongside Matthews and the 22-year-old Matthew Bneys on the top line, a movement that has already earned a strong praise from the captain of the Leafs. Matthews noted that Domi’s playing style makes him an ideal addition.
“He is really patient with the puck,” Said Matthews, via TSN. “He is really good at attracting boys and finding lanes. He can pass on his forehand, he can pass on his backhand and he is really strong on the puck. He wins fights and he can find areas.
“My experience with playing him, I just try to support him and be open, and I always have to be ready because the puck can come whenever. He is a very easy player to play with. He has a great brain and is super smart there and he is a great, great passer -by,” explained Matthews.
Berube believes that the trio can find success early. Matthews is the elite shooter of the group, while Domi is more a playmaker. Knies is a solid pre -checker and puck retriever. Together they bring all the elements that are needed to push the attack and dictate the game.
If Domi can also settle as a scoring threat, defenses can not only take Matthews or Breys, which will open the attack of Toronto.
This offers an important chance for Domi, which provides valuable experience and versatility. That Matthews is on board with the decision is a great sign.
