AUS W vs IND W 2026: Beth Mooney joins a 7,000-run club, becoming the fourth Australian batter to achieve the feat

Beth Mooney became the fourth Australian batswoman to surpass 7,000 international runs in women’s cricket, and she shows no signs of slowing down. She scored 76 runs and was named Player of the Match as Australia registered a six-wicket win over the Indian women’s cricket team in the first ODI at Allan Border Field on February 24.

With this win, Australia leveled the multi-format series at 2-2, with two ODIs in Hobart and a Test match in Perth yet to be played. Mooney reached the 7,000-run milestone when she had just six runs in her innings, joining an elite group of Australian greats including Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy.

“I didn’t know this came up tonight, but especially when I first started playing for this team, I didn’t think I’d be next to those three players on too many lists. It’s probably a testament to my longevity, but also the opportunities that have been given to me. I’m very grateful and fortunate that the coaching staff that I’ve had throughout my career, and the selectors that I’ve had, have shown a lot of belief and confidence in me. Hopefully that’s not the end and I have a lot more in me,” Mooney said. quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Mooney stated that it is a great privilege to play alongside Healy. She acknowledged the valuable partnerships they shared in the nick of time and praised Healy as a class player, who can adapt to any match situation.

“It was a real privilege to play alongside Midge [Healy] and of course you spend a fair amount of time with her in the middle. We’ve had some fantastic collaborations along the way. Tonight was much needed after back to back wickets,” said Mooney.

“To see her adapt and change her playing style based on the circumstances and the situation in front of her has been class throughout her career. It’s been cool to share a partnership with her and hopefully we’ll have a few more in us by the end of the series,” she added.

Mooney said that after chasing the target with more than 11 overs to spare, Australia were on course for 300. She added that conditions would be different in Hobart and it would be nice to play a few ODIs on what is expected to be a good batting wicket.

“That’s where we want to be as a batting group, where we adapt to the conditions but also continue the game where we can. It’s been really good for us to level the series and hopefully we can win the next two as well leading up to the Test,” Mooney said.
