India recorded a five-wicket win with nine deliveries to spare in the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series after losing the second T20I by four wickets in Melbourne. In doing so, they have leveled the series at 1-1 and also climbed to the top of an elusive list of successful T20I chases in Hobart.
Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 49-run knock off just 23 balls and some handy contributions from the top order saw the Men in Blue emerge victorious at the Bellerive Oval on Sunday, November 2. Arshdeep Singh secured the Player of the Match award for his 3/35 in four overs earlier in the match.
Highest Successful Chases in T20Is in Hobart:
| The chasing team | Opposition | Year | About | Goal |
| India | Australia | 2025 | 18.3 | 187 |
| Ireland | Scotland | 2022 | 19 | 177 |
| Australia | England | 2018 | 18.3 | 156 |
| Ireland | West Indies | 2022 | 17.3 | 147 |
| Zimbabwe | Scotland | 2022 | 18.3 | 133 |
Hobart has historically not been the best location for chasers in the white-ball format. However, the Suryakumar Yadav-led unit never let this statistic deter them in their hunt for a tight target.
Australia reached 186/6 in their innings thanks to fiery half-centuries from Tim David (74 off 38) and Marcus Stoinis (64 off 39). Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube were among the wickets alongside Arshdeep. However, Dube proved costly as he conceded 43 runs in three overs.
The first T20I of the series in Canberra was washed out. The fourth and fifth T20Is will be played in Carrara and Brisbane on November 6 and 8 respectively. The hosts won the ODI leg of the series by a 2-1 margin.
At the end of the series, India will return home to host South Africa in a multi-format series including two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. On the other hand, Australia will face England in the 2025-2026 Ashes.
