Complete Travers Stakes Poster Collection by artist Greg Montgomery (1986 to 2025) in an adapted framecase

Since 1986, artist Greg Montgomery has recorded the prestige and Penterry of Saratoga’s Signature Travers Stakes. Its 2025 poster is the 40one Edition in this coveted series of artworks associated with the Midsummer Derby. This item is absolutely unique. It is the only one that exists, made to celebrate the 40one Birthday of the Travers Poster exhibition in June in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

The 40 posters it contains are a signed and numbered set – 1/40 to 40/40. The store value of the 40 posters alone is larger than $ 7,500.

When making the framecase that houses and displays the posters, Montgomery wanted to hold a case safely and safely the entire set of 40 posters, as well as a frame to display drastically – and easy to change – displayed the poster. The result is a nice, low-profile box to look like a frame when it is hung.

Made from walnut with a smooth grain finish, the wood was ebonized, making a chemical reaction possible, making the wood black. Dark copper hardware was inlaid in the walnut frame, which was then finished with a Danish oil and a hard wax, Osmo. The Black Filter interior gives the stored prints a nice place to put and offers a bit of pressure to keep the stack of prints perfectly against the museum glass. This combination – display frame and safe storage box – the framecase – weighs less than 10 pounds and comes with heavy hanging hardware.

The framecase was built by John Haller, the founder of the Saratoga Jointery, a community editing store on Caroline St. in Saratoga Springs. Haller and Montgomery worked together on the unique design. The proceeds from this auction item will go to the Belmont Child Care Association, the permanently disabled Jockeys’ Fund and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
