Alcaraz will end the year at the top of the rankings for the second time, after becoming the first teenager to achieve the feat in 2022.
In addition to his 70 wins on tour, Alcaraz has also collected an unprecedented eight titles in 2025, including two Grand Slams, equaling his total number of losses.
Now he will try to complete another wonderful season by winning the ATP Finals for the first time.
Musetti was backed by passionate home support in a packed 12,000-capacity Inalpi Arena as he looked to build on the momentum of his dramatic win over De Minaur on Tuesday.
The Italian, battling fatigue in his seventh match in nine days after his run to the Athens Open final, was able to match Alcaraz deep in the opening set – but his admirable resistance was ultimately ended in an enthralling 11-minute 10th match.
Although Musetti continued to dig in despite a break point in his opening service game of set two, his ruthless opponent continued to apply pressure and broke at love for a 3-1 lead.
That led to Alcaraz’s sprint to the finish, but only after a freestyle Musetti created his first two break points to give the crowd new energy.
That excitement was short-lived as Alcaraz fired back with four straight points, and there would be no recovery for a fading Musetti, who was broken again before Alcaraz served out the win to reach his first goal in northern Italy.
