Alexander Sorloth scored twice as Atletico Madrid recorded their sixth straight LaLiga win by beating lowly Real Oviedo 2-0.
The Norway international scored a first-half brace at the Metropolitano to move Diego Simeone’s side within a point of Real Madrid into second place.
After going close twice early on, Sorloth made it third time lucky in the 16th minute, putting away David Hancko’s cross from close range.
That was the striker’s third league goal of the season, and he made four ten minutes later, curling home a volley at the second attempt after Real Oviedo goalkeeper Aaron Escandell had initially thwarted him.
After the break, the visitors looked for a response. Federico Vinas headed just over, while Salomon Rondon and Santi Cazorla could not take advantage of promising positions.
Giuliano Simeone and Conor Gallagher were denied late at the other end as Atletico cruised to a sixth straight league win.

Data debrief: history for Atletico and Simeone
Atletico is the first team in LaLiga history to score first in each of the first fourteen matches in a single season.
In the meantime Los Rojiblancos found the net in each of their first fourteen games in a LaLiga campaign for the first time since 1978-79.
Simeone, meanwhile, faced his 33rd different opponent in LaLiga and has now beaten 32 of the 33 teams he has faced, barring Racing Santander. The Argentinian also recorded his 323rd win in the Spanish top flight, moving him into second place on the all-time list with Miguel Munoz, behind Luis Aragones (344).
It was a typically solid defensive display from the hosts, who limited Oviedo to just one goal attempt and 0.85 expected goals (xG). Sorloth, meanwhile, had eight of Atletico’s 14 attempts, four of which were on target.
