The offseason ball officially started for the Atlanta Braves as the Glendale Desert Dogs played their first game of the season and fell 3-7. Jim Jarvis and Patrick Clohisy both got the start, and both had memorable AFL debuts, with Jim Jarvis drawing a walk in the first inning and an RBI single in the fifth. Jim also picked up a steal in the first inning before being eliminated immediately afterwards. Patrick Clohisy would score a pair of singles in back-to-back at bats in the third and fifth inning.

Jhancarlos Lara would be the first Braves pitcher to appear, as he was the second pitcher used, entering the game in the fourth inning. After a two-pitch at-bat for the leadoff hitter, Jhancarlos gave up consecutive walks before ending the inning with a perfect sinker in the zone – setting up a double play to end the inning.

LJ McDonough would get the ball in the sixth inning and would bypass a single and hit-by-pitch to record a scoreless inning. Like Jhancarlos, LJ would induce his own double play, but unlike Lara, it came from his slider biting away from the hitter, creating weak contact.
