At Hunt for talent, young players are invited to Sheffield – Table Tennis England

The One to Watch camp at the Elite Training Center in Sheffield saw 24 under-13 players invited through a variety of routes including nominations from Pathway Development Centers, participation in previous national camps, applications through the online Talent Recruitment Scheme, as well as coach nominations and match results.

The camp was led by England Hopes National Coach Charlotte Carey, supported by National Coaches Ben Barlow and Antony Constantinou, along with high-quality sparring partners including current U19 National Champion Jakub Piwowar and top-10 senior player Ben Piggott.

Players took part in a wide range of training activities including off-table physical work, table consistency and technical sessions, as well as competitive match play scenarios. All players had the opportunity to train with the sparring partners and receive multiball from the coaches.

Parents also had the opportunity to speak to the coaching staff and ask questions to Head of Pathway Development Natalie Green on a range of topics including training opportunities, competition pathways and the quality and quantity of weekly training hours.

The aim of the weekend was to bring together a group of young players in a national training environment to observe how they trained and how they interacted with coaches, as well as their behavior both on and off the table. Following the camp, the coaching team identified several players they would like to see again, who will be invited to future England Hopes camps.

The Talent Team is currently finalizing a new One to Watch camp for later in the season. Coaches who feel they have players who have the potential to progress into the England Pathway are encouraged to contact the Talent Team or complete the online Talent Recruitment form.
